Victim of Domestic Violence

Domestic violence victims are not volunteers. They are the objects of someone elses abuse. Victims don't have any one profile nor do they invite or attract the abuse of others. They are however frequently sought, chosen and cultivated by an abusive person. Most domestic violence victims are females with an increasing number of males being identified as victims. The effects of domestic violence victimization range from difficulty in maintaining relationships to being completely debilitated. Post traumatic stress disorder symptoms of flashbacks, disassociation, hyper arousal, hyper reactivity as well as clinical symptoms of anxiety and depression are common. These symptoms may subside when the abuser is removed but the conditions will not remediate without successful psychotherapeutic treatment.
